But it is worth knowing before you get quotes that most counties and cities here require the entire shell to be removed — not broken up and left in the ground — then backfilled with fill dirt, compacted, and graded out for drainage.

How a Pool Removal Runs
1. Permit
We pull the demolition permit through whichever authority covers your address, exactly as we would for a house demolition.
2. Break out the shell
The pool structure is broken out with equipment sized to your access, and the concrete is loaded and hauled away.
3. Backfill
The void is filled with fill dirt rather than the rubble that came out of it.
4. Compact and grade
The fill is compacted, then the ground is graded out so water runs where it should.
Where the Concrete Goes
The concrete out of a pool shell is recycled, the same as the concrete frame and foundation from a house demolition. Demolition, hauling and containers are run by one crew, so the material leaves as part of the job rather than waiting on a separate contractor.
